Frequently asked questions
Will my flower look exactly like the picture?
All flowers are custom made, and the pictures on this website are just examples of flowers that have already been created. Each flower is a work of art! Colors may vary slightly from the photographs. If you'd like different colors, or perhaps a different size, please email me with the details. Smaller, larger, or more custom flowers may be a different price, but I can work with you to make sure you get the perfect flower for your special day!
What is your exchange and return policy?
All sales are final but the utmost care has been taken to insure that your flowers have been padded and packed to reduce breakage. However, breakage can happen so please consider ordering extra if you need them! All shipments are insured so if you receive broken flowers, send me a picture of the damage, and I'll get started on replacements ASAP! And please email me if you have any questions or concerns. I definitely understand the difficulty in shipping such fragile items, and will be happy to work with you!
Do you accept orders outside of the US?
Unfortunately, not at this time. However, please email me with your event details if you'd like a shipping time and cost quote, and I'll see what I can do!
How far in advance to I need to place my order?
Because all orders are custom, please allow up to four weeks for their creation. Once shipped, most orders take 2-3 days to arrive. All orders are shipping through USPS Priority Mail, however an Express Mail upgrade is available at an additional fee for rush orders. Please order far enough in advance to receive your flowers in time for your special day! I recommend ordering at least six weeks before your event. That way, if need be, I can reship you any items that may have been destroyed during shipping.
Are the sugar flowers edible?
All of my sugar flowers are made from gumpaste, which is edible. However, some of the other materials, such as floral tape and wires, stamens, and metallic dusts, are not edible, though they are non-toxic. I do not recommend eating the flowers. When placing sugar flowers into your cake, please note that it is recommended not to place the wires directly into the cake. You can avoid this by wrapping the wires in foil, or sticking them in straws or coffee stirrers, or specially made floral picks. .
How long will my sugar flowers keep?
If kept in a cool, dark, dry place, your sugar flowers will last you a long time. My mom still has some flowers that I made her when I was a teenager! Moisture and sunlight will destroy them, however. Beauty is fleeting! We recommend you keep them in the cardboard boxes they are mailed in-- the foam will help protect them from breakage, too!
Will you make me a custom flower?
Absolutely! Just send me an e-mail or an Etsy message with the details and any pictures or color swatches you have, and I'll be happy to give you a quote and set up a custom order.
Do you make wedding cakes or other special occasion cakes?
I currently work from home and do not have the facilities set up for making cakes. However, if you are near Tampa, FL, I will be happy to recommend a local bakery.
Who works at Kelsie Cakes?
Just me, Kelsie! Although I'm the only one who makes and ships all the flowers, I could not do any of this without the love and support and encouragement of my family, boyfriend, roommate, friends, coworkers, or mentors! I am very blessed to have such a strong support group! If you want to learn more, please see the "about me" page.
