For Bakeries + Business Owners
Not only am I a seasoned sugar flower artist (*ahem* as seasoned as one can be when you started dabbling in high school, I suppose) but I also have over a decade of experience as a professional cake decorator, working everywhere from a small town cafe to a large regional grocery store chain (and don’t forget my dining room).
Over the years I’ve collected some resources that make my life just a little bit easier. I’m sharing my list of favorite tools for bakers, in the form of software that is on sale for Black Friday!

Dubsado
First on the list is Dubsado. This is a client relationship manager and makes life so much easier after you’ve set everything up. You can send invoices, proposals, contracts, design drafts, and manage all your client emails in one place. If there’s one thing I hate, it’s having to go through all of my communication outlets to find that one message a client sent me with their event colors (was it a text? a twitter DM? maybe they cc’d me when they emailed the planner?) so I prefer all client communications for custom orders go through here for my Sugar Flower orders. And honestly, it’s a great tool for bakers and cake decorators too.

Convertkit
For a long time, I thought Convertkit was just for service-based online businesses. Surprisingly, I was wrong. (Is it surprising that I was wrong, or was it surprising that Convertkit is for everyone??)
Everyone needs a mailing list, including a physical product-based business like a bakery (or Sugar Flower Shop). Even if it’s just where you keep track of your clients’ anniversaries so you can send them a quick congrats (and offer to sell them an anniversary cake at a special past client price *wink*), keeping in touch with your past clients makes everyone’s lives better.
Convertkit is running their Black Friday sale starting on 11/21.
Their creator plan will be over 30% off, and I definitely took advantage of that last year. And now’s your chance to take advantage too!
(And did I mention how amazingly kind and helpful and responsive their customer service is? That is a make or break factor for me when signing up for software.)
The Contract Shop
The contracts from Christina Scalera will be on sale for 2022 Black Friday. I knew I needed to get my biz legalized but uhhhh it’s expensive, y’all. Which is why I loved being able to pick up some terms & conditions to lawyer up my new website during the 2021 black Friday sale.
(Helps me sleep better at night to know my business is legalized!)
I also picked up a contract to start using for my custom Sugar Flower orders. No, there is not a specific ”Sugar Flower” contract but I reached out to customer service and they were so helpful in guiding me toward the best contract to start with and how to customize it for my unique biz needs.

The Copy Bar
Super excited to hear that the Product Description Templates are hitting the shop this year.
I snagged them as a Copywriting for Creatives bonus last year and they’re gold.
Even though the descriptions are not tailored specifically for sugar artists (because that is just way too niche), they are great inspiration and totally helped me think outside the box (I also screenshot product descriptions from other websites I like and store them in a folder for inspiration).

Another can’t-live-without resource is the copy bank. The more I dive into the idea that my sweet lil neurodivergent brain needs an extra leg up when it comes to organizing, the more I love finding resources like this that help corral my ideas and reference information. Which both of these products do. I have a pretty long wish list at The Copy Bar and I pretty much only buy from it during these big sales 😍
Oh, and Primed to Launch is coming back. I cannot wait to see what’s new with the updated version. The OG version gave me the roadmap and confidence to launch my new website this year. Give me a roadmap and I’m ready to go! Otherwise I kind of wander around in circles lol.
Are you on Ashlyn’s email list? She send out her 2022 Black Friday product catalog and I peeped in there that her Art of Efficiency course is also coming back. Am I excited? Hell yeah. (Did I mention I need help staying organized?)
One last template: The Business Basics Email Templates. These really upped my email game! I have a tendency to err on the side of country mouse when I send emails (what can I say? My husband thinks I grew up on a farm 😆) and this set of email templates gave me a look into a level of professionalism I didn’t know I could tap into! It’s one thing to know what you’re talking about, it’s another to sound like you know what you’re talking about. My goal is to do both!

The annual 2022 Black Friday Etsy ”cyber week” is already live! It runs through 11/30/22 and Etsy sellers are encouraged to offer sales for up to 60% off! I’m really focused on supporting small businesses this season, which means not only purchasing the bulk of my gifts from small businesses, but also not waiting until the last minute! I want to give these creative sellers the time they need to ship their orders without the stress of last-minute postal uncertainties!
