Did you know Ryan and I got engaged on a cruise ship? Yep! Ryan proposed to me on the first night of our cruise, and I’ve got to hand it to him- I was totally surprised! (It was the end of the year, and I was so preoccupied with work and the holidays I didn’t even have time to get my nails done before vacation 🤣 iykyk)

we were so young! 🥹

But cruise ships aren’t just for engagements– lots of couples get married on a cruise, too!

And if that’s what you’re planning: I love it! If you’d like to include handcrafted Sugar Flowers as part of your special day, then you came to ask the right person. 🤓

Here are some of my tips & suggestions of what to consider when planning out your wedding cake! Often cruise ships have predesigned wedding cakes to make the process simpler and smoother (after all, that’s what you want from a cruise ship destination wedding, right?! Keep. It. Simple.), but that doesn’t mean you can’t add your own special touch in the form of Sugar Flowers! (most of the time)

Tip One: Check the rules

All cruise ships have different rules about what is included in your wedding package, as well as what you’re allowed to bring on board!

Check with your planner or point-of-contact if you’d like to bring your own Sugar Flowers to be placed on your wedding cake.

The pastry chefs will need to okay the plan, too!

No outside food or beverage onboard. Different rules apply for weddings that take place in port and weddings that take place on the ship.

For example, the Princess cruise line handles specific requests on a case-by-case basis (click here to read more).

Tip Two: Pack Accordingly

Some cruise lines will only allow cake toppers that are fully sealed and unopened.

If you need your Sugar Flowers packaged in shrink wrap to fulfill this requirement, please contact me before placing your order!

I offer shrink wrap as an add-on for a small additional fee.

Tip Three: Know where to ship

Pun not intended!

Are you shipping the sugar flowers to your house first, to travel with you to the cruise port?

Or do you have a point of contact in the port city who can accept the package on your behalf?

There are different things to consider if you’re getting married on the ship, or if you’re having an on-land ceremony and reception at port. In most cases, you can’t take things on/off the ship so if you know the vendors you’re working with at the wedding location, coordinate with them to receive your sugar flower package.

Also, be sure to leave plenty of time for ordering to allow any potential delivery delays!
