Are you planning a wedding in 2025 or designing a cake for a couple tying the knot that year? If you’re staring at a blank Pinterest board, feeling just a tad overwhelmed by the sheer volume of wedding inspiration out there, take a deep breath.

Your wedding cake does not have to be a carbon copy of what’s trending. It should reflect your unique story and style. That said, if you’re curious about the latest trends but want to make them tailor-fit for your special day, you’re in the right place!!

I’ve curated five styles to inspire you to find the perfect vibe for your wedding and make sure you’ve got a wedding cake that matches!

Hi, I’m Kelsie, your cake-loving guide and the creative force behind Sugar Flowers by Kelsie Cakes.

For over a decade, I’ve been crafting unforgettable wedding cakes and sugar flowers. Even before then, I’ve loved flowers and weddings. I made my first wedding cake when I was 15! (That was in 2006 for anyone doing the math lol) It was two-tier carrot cake with blue buttercream roses for my uncle’s wedding. I’ve come a long way since then, and I’m excited to share my insights, experience, and creative vision with you in 2025!

Why I picked these 5 styles

These aren’t just a list of trends for the sake of “what’s trending.” These are the styles I see real couples gravitating toward— my clients who want their wedding to feel intentional, personal, and not just like every other wedding they’ve seen on Pinterest.

I pulled ideas from the trend reports that come out from places like Brides, The Wed, and Sapphire Event Group, and (spent way too many hours researching) turned them into a more helpful roadmap to give you a creative starting point to find your own direction.

Think of this collection as your map to find tons inspo, not a checklist to copy-paste someone else’s wedding.

I made a YouTube video walking through each style!

Vintage Glam

A Nod to Elegance and Drama

Vintage Glam is all about bringing a touch of old-world sophistication to modern weddings. Picture a cake table draped in black velvet, adorned with gold accents that catch the light just so.

The floral elements are equally luxurious, with sugar flowers like gardenias, magnolias, or peonies adding grace and elegance to your cake table.

To make this style yours, anything and everything with past personal significance can be incorporated! Maybe you’ve inherited all of your grandma’s cut crystal vases and they would be a perfect table centerpiece. Heirloom jewelry and vintage lace might be the first thing you think of when you hear “vintage glam” but it doesn’t have to be the last thing you think of!

When it comes to your cake, the key is to balance drama with elegance, like a smooth buttercream cake with dozens of sugar flowers or an elaborate piped Lambeth-inspired cake sitting atop the most ornate aged bronze cake stand!

Bold Pinks

A Celebration of Vibrant Personality

For those who love to make a statement, Bold Pinks is the trend with  a vibrant and energetic palette. Hot pink and magenta are the stars here, bringing big color and personality to your wedding, and definitely to your cake!

Imagine sugar flowers like tulips, ranunculus, and fuchsia roses cascading down the tiers. Balance out all that amazing color with a bold black cake stand.

Blushing Bride is out and Bold Pinks is in! How can you weave the color into your bridesmaids’ dresses, your bow tie, your cocktail hour, or your stationery suite?!

Ethereal Romance

A Fairytale Come to Life

Ethereal Romance is the fairy tale trend of 2025. Think: soft hues, flowy textiles, and dreamy florals such as pale roses, baby’s breath, and soft peonies.

To make this style uniquely yours, consider the elements that make your love story magical. I’m not just talking the cliche shared trips to Disney or walks at sunset (although I’m not not talking about that).

It could be a book y’all both love to read and discuss, a favorite song, a familiar scent. Incorporating these elements can help create a visual narrative of your love story.

Keeping the color palette neutral lets your romantic touches take the spotlight! And for your cake, weaving into the overall decor and style by matching florals and colors makes the cake the centerpiece of your reception without taking any of the attention away from y’all as a couple!

Fruitful Elegance

Lush Meets Refined

Fruitful Elegance is all about grounded sophistication. It draws from the richness and colors of nature— plums, figs, lemons, peaches, oranges (I could go on)— and gives your wedding a luxe, thoughtful spin.

And don’t think you’re creating fruit salad here. Maybe it’s seasonal fruits in the menu, or hand-molded sugar fruit tucked into the cake design.

Play with color and texture to create a vibe that feels rich and intentional. Lush, earthy tones like plum, ochre, aubergine, terra cotta, cherry, and olive are sophisticated and unexpected.

Make this trend your own: If you hate figs because your mom tried to make you eat them every summer from the ten fig trees in your backyard, don’t use figs! Use plums ‘cause they’re your favorite color.

Italian Coastal Chic

Breezy Mediterranean Vibes

Think: lemons, olive branches, and the perfect Mediterranean-sea blue. This style is sunny, breezy, and just the right amount of bougie. It’s perfect for seaside weddings (or just for pretending you’re in Amalfi while getting married in California).

But it’s more of a vibe than a geographic requirement. Even places like Bella Collina outside of Orlando and the Villa Terrace Decorative Arts Museum in Milwaukee which are not near the sea and still have that breezy, chic vibe!

And for your cake? Obviously, delicate citrus blossoms come to mind, but I also love things like handpainted watercolor wash on fondant and unexpected floral combinations like anemones and deep blue delphinium. Now all you need is an Aperol spritz and you can bask in the beauty of your seaside-worthy cake.

To make it more personal, include your signature drink (it doesn’t have to be Aperol) or maybe exclusively serve the wine from that trip y’all took together to wine country where you got engaged!

Those tiny things? They’re what make the whole wedding feel like you.
